Please join us for a virtual program featuring short films and artwork by Alan Syliboy (Mi’kmaq). The program will begin with two short animations: “Little Thunder,” a traditional Mi’kmaq story, and “Wolverine and Little Thunder: An Eel Fishing Adventure,” a modern tale. Following the films, Syliboy will share images of some of his artwork and lead a live discussion. Syliboy will share his stories about becoming an artist, his use of ancient petroglyph designs to reclaim and transmit Mi’kmaq culture, the role of elder artists in teaching and inspiring the next generation, and other themes related to his creative work. His stories are a vivid example of the importance of memory and of place. Presented as part of the 19th Annual Indigenous Film & Arts Festival in partnership with the International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management.
